Who are we?

Welcome! We’re Vikki & Mala (otherwise known as V & M) and VeryMakeupMad was born out of our mutual love of makeup, skincare & all things beauty. Our paths crossed back in 2008, and thanks to our combined 15+ years of experience in the beauty industry – V as a Beauty Editor and M as a makeup-artist and model – we instantly hit it off over a latte. Our curly hair was a great conversation starter – curly girls should always stick together! Only recently though, as we both hit our 40’s, did we decide to put our wealth of beauty knowledge and expertise to good use and set up this blog. A blog for real women, by real women.

Our philosophy is simple – we’re all about helping you to be naturally beautiful, using great skincare to create the perfect canvas, and the very best makeup to enhance what you already have. We believe that all women can be empowered to feel and look their best with the help of some great products and we’re happy to do the groundwork for you – we’ll tell you what to buy, (& what not to buy!), where to find it and how to use it. Most of all though, we have fun with makeup and we hope you’ll join us on our discovery of the hottest new products and our re-acquaintance with some old gems.

Vikki grew up in Manchester and is very proud of her northern roots (she still says ‘gr-A-ss’, not ‘gr-AH-ss’). She moved down to ‘The Big Smoke’ after graduating, to pursue her career in journalism. She worked at Red and Marie Claire Health & Beauty magazines, before being offered her dream job at Vogue, where she was Beauty Editor for 3 years, writing, researching and interviewing as well as working backstage at fashion weeks, flying round the world on press launches and perhaps most excitingly of all, the holder to the keys of the ‘Beauty Cupboard’. From there she moved to Brides Magazine as Beauty & Travel Editor, sampling some great honeymoons along the way! Since leaving the magazine world, she has freelanced for various titles and worked on projects with major beauty companies. She lives in London with her husband and 3 curly topped children.

Mala spent the first ten years of her life in India and thereafter flitting between Goa’s golden sandy beaches and the slightly less exotic sands of Westcliff-on-Sea. Her modelling career began at ten for Vidal Sasoon and carried on into her late twenties. She was snapped for J17, Mizz, and Marieclaire to name but a few, and featured in ad campaigns for the likes of Tammy Girl, Bvlgari and Starbucks. She trained as a YSL makeup artist, working on many of their campaigns whilst gaining a place at RADA (and then losing her much needed sponsor. Oops!) Not one to be put off, she continued to work in the acting industry and appeared in some TV staples. She’s kept her fingers in ‘dramatic pies’ whether it be casting or teaching speech and drama from her home. She lives in London with her husband, 3 very straight haired children and her Tiara Teddy Bear (pooch).
