The lowdown on Bakuchiol… the ingredient giving retinol a run for its money!

It’s a new month, and Spring is definitely in the air. So we reckon it’s the perfect time to try some new beauty and for you to add a new ingredient to your skincare routine.

And as a couple of “Beauty Owls” (see our fab, new brooches below, which have inspired us) we’re here to impart our beauty wisdom and tell you about BAKUCHIOL, which is a brilliant alternative to RETINOL. We all know about the unrivalled anti-ageing properties of retinol (so many of you ask us about it during our Zoom skincare consultations!) and how it’s brilliant at refining lines and wrinkles, improving uneven skin tone, treating pigmentation and smoothing the surface of the skin. It can even help with cystic acne and blemishes. But retinol can also cause irritation, redness and flaking and needs to be introduced to your routine gradually. Basically, it isn’t suitable for everyone.

Which is why bakuchiol is causing such a beauty buzz… it’s a naturally derived, plant-based ingredient that works as hard as retinol, but without causing any of the associated irritation. Making it the perfect solution for sensitive skin (and also for pregnant/breastfeeding mums, where retinol is not recommended). It’s even suitable for anyone with eczema and rosacea who should steer clear of retinol. Plus it can be used in conjunction with other skincare ingredients such as acids and vitamin C, without causing any reaction, and is also suitable for daytime use, unlike retinol.

We’re not here to tell you that one ingredient is better than the other… but that one could be better for YOUR skin. So take advantage of our ‘Beauty Wisdom’ and get in touch today to find out which product could work for you! We’ll gladly give you our expert advice… for free! Will you be #TeamRetinol or #TeamBakuchiol?

Here are some of our favourite retinol/bakuchiol products, but there are so many more on the market, so don’t forget to get in touch for your perfect product…

🦉 GOW Super Bakuchiol Serum, £15. We’re loving this serum that also has anti-inflammatory properties. You can wear under your moisturiser or mixed in with it.
🦉 Medik8 Bakuchiol Peptides, £45 (£36 with discount code
BEAUTY20). This is a lovely lightweight serum, that is particularly good for dry skin.
🦉 Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules, £75 (£60 with discount code BEAUTY20). We love clever single dose capsules and as retinol products go, this is pretty gentle, but effective. Apply under your night cream and wake to super soft skin.
🦉 Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream, from £24. This cream ‘means business’ and we would really only recommend it to seasoned retinol users!! With 1% retinol, remember to gradually work it into your night-time routine.

Here’s to ‘Marching’ into Spring, armed with great beauty advice from us two ‘Beauty Owls’… twit twoo hoo!!

V & M xx
