Why is it that January felt far longer than 31 days? We could have sworn it was more like 41. It just seemed to drag on and on. And what’s more, January wreaked havoc with our skin. The cold, biting wind, coupled with us cranking up the central heating every time we stepped back indoors (ssshhh, don’t tell our husbands!), meant that our poor faces were tight, a little red, chapped and dull-looking. Not a good look! But then, our skincare guardian angel must have heard our prayers, because no sooner did we say ‘dry skin’, than a Korean-beauty moisturiser (always a good bet!) landed on the doorstep of Verymakeupmad Towers and we’ve been hooked ever since. Huxley Anti-Gravity Cream, £33, is quite simply a brilliant, rich day cream (M uses at night too) that effortlessly sinks into the skin, leaving the perfect, non-greasy base for your make up. It’s packed full of antioxidants and seems to plump up and firm the skin, give a gorgeous glow and work on the signs of ageing. Plus it smells fresh and yummy… a bit like cut grass. And all that for £33 – we really can’t complain!
From skin to lips… another casualty of this very cold weather. We’ve been slathering on the lip balm like there’s no tomorrow! (But let’s face it, there’s nothing pretty or VeryMakeupMad about Carmex!) And then we discovered the latest lip offering from Bobbi Brown – Crushed Liquid Lip, £19. We like to call it a ‘lip hybrid’ – it has the look of a liquid lipstick and the flattering sheen of a gloss, all with the lovely feel of a balm. M is rather taken with the nudey pink shade “Hippy Shake” and loves the fact that once she’s applied it, her lips feel soft and comfortable all day long. And they look pretty too!
V, on the other hand, has found herself rather hypnotised by the ‘swirly whirly’ prettiness of Dior’s new Lip Glow To The Max, £28. This is a stick balm formula, mixed with lovely colour and pearly shimmer to keep your lips feeling soft and nourished and looking all glowy and plump. Admittedly it’s a little too pretty to use, but V is sure she’ll give it a go very soon. Once she’s stopped staring at it!
Luckily January definitely ended on a high (on January 41st!!) when we were treated to a swanky breakfast launch for Lookfantastic’s limited edition, heart-shaped Valentine’s box, packed full of delicious rose-scented goodies. The boxes certainly attracted a lot of attention when we went shopping in London’s Westend with them, after the launch! You can’t beat a spot of retail therapy, sauntering down Bond Street, carrying a giant pink box. You can order yours today (Feb 4th) for just £60…the actual price of the products is over £153! Here’s a quick overview of the delicious products you can find in the box:
Pixi Rose Tonic – we love this nourishing, hydrating face tonic that smells subtly of rose and which made its way into our Verymakeupmad 2018 Oscars! We love to swipe this soothing, calming toner onto our skin after cleansing. Ahhh, you can’t beat that refreshing feeling!!
Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet – French beauty products always get the thumbs up from us and this is no exception. This clever, hydrating, gel-cream calms sensitive skin, reduces redness and leaves skin feeling soft and nourished.
Christopher Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste – we love how this product transforms from a paste to a lightweight foam and works to thicken and strengthen the hair from the root, giving immediate volume. Apply and massage into wet hair, wait a few minutes before you rinse and voila! Happier, thicker hair!
Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Miracle Cleanser – this gentle, creamy cleanser contains ingredients to hydrate, protect and regenerate…and more importantly, it removes all makeup, including mascara, leaving your skin glowing and squeaky clean. Massage onto your face and then use the pretty bamboo muslin to remove and lift away the day.
Elemis Gentle Rose Exfoliator – an old favourite of V’s, this is a super gentle face exfoliator. It gently removes dead skin, leaving you all radiant and glowy.
Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist – this wonder spritz hydrates and balances skin and can be used throughout the day to revitalise and refresh. The limited edition pink bottle is so pretty and M’s set on taking it with her on her travels, to use on the plane. The fact that she has no holidays booked anytime soon is just a minor issue!
Korres Japanese Rose Shower Gel – we love Korres shower gels and this one has a rather intoxicating rose scent. In fact, V is finding she has to keep it hidden, as everyone’s fighting over it in her household!
So that was January! And if the winter months are making you feel a little bluuurgh, why not shake up your makeup and join us on a VeryMakeupMad shopping spree? We’ll hit the shops and find you a beauty pick-me-up or two…for more info on our packages, head over to our Consultancy page now.
