Beauty we were loving in July…
We know it’s very British of us to discuss the weather…but hey, we’re going to anyway! Because we can’t mention July, without commenting on the fact that it was a month of many seasons here in London. One minute we had torrential rain and chilly winds (cue us desperately delving back into our winter wardrobes) and the next, we were faced with the hottest day on record. Ever! That day was NOT fun. We very nearly melted here at Verymakeupmad HQ (but luckily, our makeup stayed put, thanks to the brilliant Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, £24).
M also had the last laugh on that roasting hot day, as she was armed with La Roche Posay Anthelios Pocket Sun Cream SPF50, £7.50. It’s the dinkiest little suncream you’ve ever seen… easily fitting into the palm of your hand, and very similar in size and design to a packet of tic tacs! We love the La Roche Posay brand and its broad spectrum suncare is very impressive, having been formulated for the most sensitive skins and containing soothing thermal spring water. This is super light, not at all greasy, doesn’t sting or irritate skin or eyes and is perfect for ‘on-the-go’ suncream application!
V did a little jump for joy when she discovered that cult skincare brand, Lixirskin, is now available on Lookfantastic. She’s been a fan of the amazing Vitamin C Paste, £32 (if you haven’t tried it, you must. And don’t be put off by the strange smell) since its launch last year and has been keen to try some of the other products in the range. The Universal Emulsion, £29 is her ‘current squeeze’, and was created out of the belief that there’s ‘no such thing as a cream which is good for a bit of your skin and not the other’. So you can use this moisturiser pretty much anywhere (face, neck, eye contour, lips, hands…) and it can also be used in multiple ways – as a day cream, night cream, serum. V’s been using at night for the ultimate moisture boost, and waking to dewy, plumped up skin.
On to makeup, and we’ve both been very impressed with Bellapierre Cosmetics Glowing Palette, which is currently on offer at Lookfantastic – £19 instead of £40! (don’t wait around!). The 6 creamy, illuminating powders are all very flattering, muted shades, and can be used as highlighters, blushers or for contouring, depending on your skin tone. Swish them on cheekbones, browbones, down the nose… anywhere you want to glow! And at that price, you really can’t go wrong.
We’ve also been revisiting a couple of ‘old favourites’ this month. M has returned to using Benefit Browvo Conditioning Primer, £24, on her brows, to set them for the day. She’ll either use it after applying her eyebrow pencil or if she’s pushed for time, will use it on its own – the clear, colourless gel intensifies the appearance of her brows and makes them look perfectly groomed. We think this is a very clever product and although as the name suggests, it’s more about conditioning and priming brows, we love it for its ability to make brows look bolder and better in seconds! Goodbye straggly hairs and sorry brows, hello perfectly groomed brows!
Our final July makeup must-have and one which we mentioned early on in VeryMakeupMad history, is Butter London Sheer Wisdom Lip Oil in Ballet Blush, £18. With coconut oil, chia seed oil and brimming with antioxidants, this nourishing, creamy lip oil glides on and conditions and moisturises lips beautifully, whilst also giving them a pretty wash of delicate pink colour. We’re still loving it and will both be popping it into our holiday makeup bags for the softest, smoothest lips.
We’ve filmed a vlog all about these products so head over to our Facebook page to see them all and watch us discuss them in more detail.
As ever, don’t hesitate to get in touch for bespoke makeup and skincare suggestions. It’s what we love to do!!
Love & holiday vibes,
Vikki & Mala xx
