Beauty Talks with Lookfantastic – reviewing the best new makeup and skincare products…
It was a very early start for Verymakeupmad today (and M doesn’t ‘do’ mornings!). And to add insult to injury, when we arrived at Euston Station to jump on a train to Lookfantastic HQ, and in need of a caffeine fix, it turned out our beloved coffee shops are closed down for refurbishment. Not a great beginning!
But things improved rapidly when we arrived at Lookfantastic to do this month’s live Beauty Talks… an informal, ‘sofa chat’ round-up of some great new products on the Lookfantastic website, plus some fab gift ideas. (You can check out the video on our Facebook page, if you haven’t seen it already).
So we wanted to bring you our own Verymakeupmad review of some of the products that we discussed. Our favourites, basically. First up, the Murad Prebiotic 4-in-1 Multicleanser, £38, which is a gentle but effective cleansing oil that glides onto skin and melts away makeup and any impurities. Because it contains a prebiotic, it maintains the skin’s equilibrium by not getting rid of the ‘good bacteria’ that live there! It’s nourishing and hydrating and leaves skin feeling clean, soft, plumped-up and glowing. We’re not mad on skincare’s newish fad of double cleansing (frankly, we don’t have the time!), but if you are, then use this oil first and then use a cream, balm or gel cleanser.
Next we were introduced to Lime Crime’s new Soft Matte Softwear Blush, £22. As you know, M is a huge blush fan, so nearly fell off the sofa when she saw these. They’re gorgeous cream to powder blushes in stunning, springtime packaging and with a delicate floral scent… although we swear it’s more of a chocolate-y smell. As is often Lime Crime’s way, some of the shades look a bit too bright and garish (take Hotspot, for example), but believe us when we say they blend out to give the prettiest flush of colour and are also very buildable. And you know we love a cream blush, as layering powders can be ageing.
For a fab gift idea (what do you get the woman who has everything?!) have a look at Slip Lovely Lashes Sleep Mask, £50. M wasn’t so sure about this as she doesn’t like the thought of falling asleep with anything on her face, but V thinks the idea of a pure silk mask with a cute eyelash pattern, blocking out all the light, sounds heavenly.
And last but not least, YSL Touche Eclat High Cover Concealer, £26. You all know Touche Eclat – the brand’s iconic, ‘clicky pen’ highlighter. Well this is the all-new, slightly heavier, concealer version. If you already use Touche Eclat as a concealer, that’s fine. But if you fancy a little more coverage under the eyes and in areas of redness, then grab yourselves one of these miracle pens. It’s a super light, creamy formula, that doesn’t sit in lines or creases, but hides a multitude of sins and gives a beautiful radiance. It’s definitely a must-have product. And with 16 shades to choose from, you’ll find one for you (for reference, M is a 3.0 and V is either 1.5 or 2.0)
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Love and Looking Fantastic,
Vikki & Mala xx
