As you might have realised by now, we’re crazy about skincare. Right now, more than ever, we’re enjoying trialling great skincare and using these products to create a flawless, glowing face, without the need (or desire!) to wear makeup. At VeryMakeupMad we’ve always prided ourselves on honest beauty and only introducing you to skincare products that we’re excited to shout about and that we’re using ourselves. But what happens a few months down the line? Are we still loving them? Are we still using them? And have they made a difference to our skin? Welcome to Skincare Revisited – the lockdown lowdown!

L’Oréal Revitalift Filler +Hyaluronic Acid Anti-Wrinkle Serum, £24.99
This is the anti-ageing product that’s been flying off the shelves in ‘The States’, and recently landed on our shores. A hyaluronic acid serum, it plumps up the skin, locks in moisture and helps to reduce fine lines.
V: I’ve been using this daily for several weeks now, applying every morning under my moisturiser. And I think it’s great. It’s silky smooth and doesn’t leave skin feeling tacky. I’m a fan of hyaluronic acid anyway, as I have very dry skin, and this leaves it feeling soft, hydrated and without any of my usual tightness. I haven’t noticed a dramatic difference in my lines, but I definitely don’t feel as ‘crepey’.
M: I’ve used this every morning and evening for 9 weeks now, and really enjoy how luxurious it feels as it glides onto the skin. The quick dry-down is a big bonus and I found it to have a plumping effect thanks to the hydrating benefits of the hyaluronic acid. And as for fine lines… I can’t report any great difference, but they don’t appear worse! I’ve enjoyed using this serum and would definitely buy it again.

Erno Laszlo AHA Resurfacing Sleep Serum, £95
A powerful resurfacing serum that works hard as you sleep to improve skin tone, discolouration, lines and wrinkles, and also brightens dull skin.
V: I had high hopes for this product, as I’m a big fan of Erno Laszlo (the luxurious and brilliant Phelityl Night Cream is one of my expensive habits!). But for me, this serum didn’t provide the hydration and nourishment that my skin needs overnight. I think it would be more suited to anyone with an oilier complexion and those who want to deal with an uneven skin tone.
M: I used this product religiously for a month and like V, I also had high hopes… and I wasn’t disappointed. You have to work quickly with this serum when applying, as it’s a super fast drying liquid. For the last few years I’ve been covering a red patch on my nose (hyperpigmentation), but after using this product, the redness has all but disappeared. A real beauty success story for me, so I’d definitely use it again.

Sarah Chapman Skinesis Glow, £64
A clever anti-ageing, anti pollution elixir, use this whenever you need to feel uplifted. It promises to leave your face looking youthful, radiant and glowing.
V: I’m obsessed with this heavenly smelling oil/elixir. I’ve been using it with my jade roller, (before my moisturiser) and am loving the effect it seems to have on my skin… and spirits! It’s one of those skincare products that I actually look forward to using and it makes me feel pampered and leaves my skin totally nourished. Definitely worth every penny.
M: I’m also obsessed with the smell, and the uplifting feeling I get when I apply this luxurious oil. I love the way it melts into my skin and when I use it together with my roller it feels really invigorating, so I tend to use it in the mornings, to kick-start my day. We’re both fans of Sarah Chapman and this new (limited edition) addition to her skincare range is a real beauty winner for all skin types.

Hada Labo Tokyo Lotion No1 Super Hydrator, £15.95
Japan’s best-selling skincare line, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced brand that uses hyaluronic acid, Hada Labo Tokyo is for you. This lightweight serum contains this wonder ingredient in different molecular weights.

V: I love how light and liquidy this serum is – and not at all sticky. Having said that, as a daily morning serum, I prefer something a little heavier, (like the L’Oréal). But during lockdown, I’ve been reapplying it during the day (even over makeup, on the very rare days I’ve been wearing it!) to keep my skin feeling hydrated.

M: I’m loving that you can apply this product not only in the morning and evening but throughout the day too! It really does give the skin an instant moisture hit. I found that ‘less is more’ with this serum, and pressing it into the face, rather than rubbing, works best. The instant feeling of hydration is very satisfying and since lockdown, I’ve used it throughout the day… but might find it tricky when out and about, as it’s quite a large bottle to carry around!

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex II, £58

This cult serum has been around almost as long as us (it originally launched in the 80s, but the formula has been zooped up since then!) and we can safely say, it’s an oldie, but a goodie! Apply at night before your moisturiser (if your skin is oily, you can get away with using it alone) to hydrate and repair and to work its magic on lines and wrinkles.

V: I love this silky, peach serum and how great it feels on my skin. When I’m using ANR, I know that I’m guaranteed to wake up to bright, radiant skin that feels super-soft and hydrated.

M: Love it, Love it, Love it!! Not a year goes by without me using this iconic night serum. It hydrates, refines and strengthens skin and gets to work on lines and wrinkles. I love how it glides on, and how it improves the feel and quality of your skin… and that’s why I return to it once a year. It’s our VMM anti-ageing go-to serum and that’s why it’s earned its place in our Hall of Hero Beauty Products (if you’ve never checked this page out, please do!).

And whilst we’re on the subject of skincare, we couldn’t leave without telling you about this Beauty Expert Serenity Edit, £65. It’s basically a box full of skincare magic – 6 amazing, hard-working products… that you’ll love. And use! We’re already hooked on the Gatineau Cream Cleanser and have long been fans of Nuxe cult Reve De Miel Lip Balm (it’s hard to beat it!). And then there’s Rodial’s Pink Diamond Night Gel, with diamond powder, retinol and Vitamin C, for the brightest, most radiant complexion to wake up to in the morning. And the best bit? The value of the box is over £220, but it retails for just £65. And if you use code VMMBE_15 at checkout, you’ll get an extra 15% off. Now that’s worth shouting about!!

Love and Skin Satisfaction,

Vikki & Mala xx
