Best new beauty buys! New Year, New You… skincare & makeup must haves.

We’re not ones to wish time away, but boy are we glad that January’s over. Funny old month, January!! And long. Very long.

But there were some positives to January. For a start, we got to road test some brilliant skincare, keeping our dry, winter skin at bay and putting a spring in our step (it’s hard to beat that feeling of your skin looking healthy, plump and hydrated, especially at this time of year). Enter Hada Labo Tokyo – Japan’s best-selling skincare line. For years, it’s been unavailable to buy in the UK and thanks to its cult status, beauty insiders would beg anyone visiting Asia to bring some home with them. Despite the fact that the wording on the packaging was entirely in Japanese! Thankfully, the brand has been repackaged (and reformulated) for the British Market and is now available on Amazon. However, it seems to be a victim of its own success (the great price point doesn’t help!), so you might find that certain products are out of stock. But be patient… they’re constantly being restocked. All products contain wonder ingredient, hyaluronic acid (ultimate weapon in the fight against dry, dehydrated skin and a VeryMakeupMad must-have!) in different molecular weights, and if we’re honest, they’re the ‘Bees Knees’! We’re loving the best-selling Lotion No 1 Super Hydrator, which is a liquid, light-as-air serum that leaves skin silky smooth and not tacky. And we’re very excited by the anti-ageing version, which contains collagen and retinol too. And ‘Eye Cream Queen’, M, has just started trialling the Smoothing Anti-Fatigue Eye Cream which also contains caffeine and silk tea extract and works on dark circles and puffiness. So far, so good! We’ll report back next month…

Still on hydrated skin and V has just finished her first bottle of Lumene Arctic Berry Oil Cocktail… and is onto the next. To put it bluntly, she’s hooked! It’s a bi-phase face oil (but more serum like in consistency) that she applies daily under her moisturiser for the glowiest, dewiest skin. It’s packed with vitamins, fruit extracts and omega fatty acids to hydrate and brighten and leave skin feeling plump and with no tightness. Plus it looks pretty and smells yummy. What’s not to love?!

Another favourite brand of ours at Verymakeupmad is Erno Laszlo (we’ve written before about the brilliant Hydra-Therapy Memory Sleep Mask) and we were thrilled to receive their brand new, innovative AHA Resurfacing Sleep Serum to trial for 28 days. It’s a cocktail of acids that you apply at night (alone, or in our case, under your night cream) to exfoliate and resurface the skin as you sleep. It works on dullness, wrinkles, uneven tone and discolouration and promises to restore a youthful radiance. All of that, while you sleep… yes please! We’ll be showing our ‘before and after’ photos next month with more details of how to get your hands on this product.

And last but not least, makeup! And if you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that we’re totally and utterly (Verymakeup)mad about Natasha Denona! Her products are some of our all-time favourites and we’ve lost count of the times that we’ve recommended her gorgeous palettes to clients. So imagine our excitement when we discovered that the brand had launched on Lookfantastic. Which means no more frantic trips to Selfridges every time a new product is launched (speaking of which, we can’t wait to check out the irresistible, limited edition Love Glow Cheek Palette which lands any day now). Now, we love a Selfridges shopping spree as much as the next person, but to be able to order online with the tap of a finger and have the products delivered to your doorstep for free… well you really can’t argue with that! M can’t resist a pink toned eyeshadow (not everyone can rock it like she can, but if you’ve never tried pink tones, give them a whirl, you may be surprised!) and the Natasha Denona Cranberry Palette hasn’t disappointed. Its a celebration of berry shades and each one is more mouthwatering than the next. The creamy powder formulas blend beautifully and we love the combination of sparkle, metallic and soft matte.

V, on the other hand, has been trialling the Chroma Crystal Liquid Eyeshadow… and the jury’s out. Admittedly, she’s never met a Natasha Denona product she didn’t like, but she finds this liquid shadow difficult to use. It’s very thick and creamy and takes time to dry down, which means she often has glitter particles all around her eyelids whilst patiently waiting for it to ‘set’. For now she’s going to stick to her trusty, dazzling Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights.

January also saw the launch of 2 new regular VeryMakeupMad features on our Facebook page.
